Joshua Gordon
Joshua A. Gordon is a dispute resolution professional with a background as a mediator, facilitator, negotiator, trainer, social worker, process engineer and organizational developer in corporate, non-profit, community, familial, educational, and legal environments. He first became involved in dispute resolution in 1993 when he was certified as a mediator as part of the University of Massachusetts’ campus mediation and negotiation team. In addition, he received extensive training as part of the Chancellor’s Grant on Conflict Resolution that emphasized disputes involving adolescents. Through these affiliations, he gained significant experience in resolving volatile disputes.
Since 1993, he has remained an active trainer and mediator as part of the Massachusetts Attorney General Office’s Student Conflict Resolution Experts (SCORE) and Conflict Intervention Team (CIT) programs. Additional dispute resolution experience includes divorce, parent/ child, adolescent (CHINS), campus, peer, small claims, and landlord/ tenant mediation. This builds upon a background as a licensed social worker for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services and service planning for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Retardation.
In 2005, he co-developed and implemented the Outside the Box / Inside the Ring conflict resolution curriculum. This material has been well-received by the ADR community and currently being used nationally by the Citizen Schools network of after-school programs.
Joshua is a mediator and trainer for the Community Dispute Settlement Center (CDSC) in Cambridge, MA. In this capacity, he has helped develop and implement a pilot screening and mediation program at the Suffolk County Probate Court to assist the resolution of complex probate matters.
Currently, Joshua is a Senior Associate for the Assessment, Coaching, and Training (ACT) program at the Consensus Building Institute in Cambridge, MA. In this capacity, Joshua works with groups and organizations to negotiate better, more durable agreements.
He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with majors in Psychology and Sociology, and a certificate in Criminal Justice. In addition, he received both a Graduate Certificate and Master of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts Boston Programs on Dispute Resolution and is currently a law student at the Suffolk University Law School. At Suffolk University, he is an active member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Association.
